Patient advocates will be represented at ASH !

July 27, 2021

On 15th March 2021, 13 networks of patient organisations wrote to ASH Executive Committee to highlight the current situation which is preventing patient advocates from attending the American Society of Hematology (ASH) Annual Meeting and Exposition.

Umtil now there was no category for patient advocates to register their attendance at the meeting, meaning those who wish to attend must register as a ‘Non-Member’ with fees of $750-950, as per the virtual attendance at the recent 2020 meeting. This created an impossible barrier to accessing information on the latest research and development on which our patient communities desperately rely.

In addition, we sent another letter with additional 50 signatures from patient organisations from all over the world. We also called on our industry partners to support us, which they did – we also take this opportunity to thank them !

After some discussions with ASH, the ASH Executive Board decided to provide complementary registrations for patient advocates for the ASH Annual Meeting in December 2021. Advocates will be selected on application and will be given the opportunity to attend either F2F or virtually.

This is a great step forward for the patient advocacy community !
